Wet But Nice
Amazingly, we literally stayed the next night behind the previous review in site 8E. Everything they said was true (and thanks for digging the small ditch to divert the water)! Amazing location overall. Just avoid site 8E.

Amazing Area, Constant Damp, Muddy Site
We stayed on site 8E at the Sylvan Lake Campgrounds. The grounds were beautiful with amazing views. The campground was fairly well maintained and the new bathrooms and showers were well maintained and clean. Be prepared to pay for an entrance pass for the South Dakota State Parks, check their website for current prices.
I would advise to stay away from our site, especially with a longer camper. We came during melting season at the begining a June and our site had a constant stream if water going through the middle of it making the whole of site 8 damp causing us to track in mud and pine needles all the time. We diverted the stream to the edge that helps dry it out a bit. We had electric hook ups and a tent pad on our site.
While the site was not optimal, we were rarely there due to all there is to do in the area. Everything from the Needles Hwy, Wildlife Loop, and Iron Mountain Hey to Mount Rushmore and Jewel Cave were amazing! Hiking is great and the site is at multiple trailheads.

A quaint and mature campsite. No showers. Beautiful view from our site which was near the entrance of campground. Sites are nicely spaced far enough from each other. No frills here but a great location to the lake, hiking, and the lodge.
