Pipestone and Homestake are a meca for any type of motor sports. ATV-UTV-4 WHEELERS -MOTOR CYCLES, also HORSES- SINGLE TRAK- E BIKES AND HIKERS.
Lots of great things to see. Get a map from various forest service areas. All camping except homestake are open range. If there is a fire ring...it's a spot. Please bring propane fire pit, it is quick and sparkless. Remember what Smokey the Bear says "only you can prevent a forest fires"
We've been going there for three years and still have not seen all of it.
Thibgs to look for Flint stone house, lunch room, quarry (upper & lower), ringing rocks (1 of 2 in the world, so I'm told). The tectonic plates are amazing. This is an amazing place. Big drawback...washboard roads, but once you get there it's great, beautiful mtn sceneries. Go explore...have a blast!!!

Fire Staging Area
We pulled in and it looked like a DOT gravel storage lot. There is a fire over the ridge and a crew was camped on a grassy area off of the lot. Another camper was there working on his old pickup which was jacked up on blocks. We decided not to stay.

Pulled in around 6pm and parked 5th wheel right at trailhead. Wanted to park out of the way of other visitors so we ended up with a spot that wasn’t terribly level - good after level blocks in place. Very quiet night after most of the day ATV/dirtbike traffic headed out. Great alternative to the Walmart we had previously planned.
