Awesome Campground
Beautiful wooded campground, beaches, and lots of outdoor activities. Can't say enough good things about this place. The only thing that would make it better would be to have some sites available with full hookups. No sewer available in sites, just a dump station as you leave.

Great Place, Large Sites
I'm posting this mostly to correct what the last person said. Most of the sites are very large and will accommodate everyone. We were in the "no pet" loop in February and every site there was very large. It's a very green with densely vegetation and we appreciated that. Could they have done more trimming? Perhaps. Its a Very popular place and very difficult to get a site for that reason so be thankful if you get one. There's so much to do not just inside the campground but in the county park. The bike trails are fabulous, beaches great and there are many that stretch for miles and miles. You can even ride your bike on the beach. Kayaking, paddle boarding, kite sailing, fishing, historic fort and museum, food and gift shop, it's all there. Ignore the previous comment, but if unsure about the campground or a particular site, give them a call.

Reviews & Website Misleading at best
Park management lists size provisions for sites sites 88-236 as “designed to accommodate all camping units” this is grossly inaccurate and misleading. Further, they completely ignore maintenance of trees and branches only to cover themselves by posting multiple signs cautioning patrons of them AFTER registration and upon entering the cart paths they seem to call roadways. Clearly, this park is for small rigs which is great but please don’t be so darn deceitful in the website and descriptions. Beautiful setting, great amenities and enjoyed the nature but please, do some maintenance of the place.

This was our first travel trailer camping experience and Fort De Soto was the perfect destination. This campsite is awesome with beautiful views and beaches. Don't plan on using your cell phone because there is very little coverage. Great amenities. We will definitely come back!

Great Campsite!
Had a great time RV camping here with my parents and 2 year old. Very quiet and very clean campground at a reasonable price! Waterfront spots are really nice! I would love to stay here again when we're passing through.

Incredible Campground
Incredible amenities are here at this county Park. This has to be one of the best parks in Florida, probably the best that's not a State Park. So much to do incredible bike trails that are paved, swimming at two different beaches in the ocean, searching for shells on the beach, visiting the historic Fort DeSoto, or camping in their beautiful campground. This campground has it all, nice private sites, some with waterfronts, clean shower houses and restrooms. Hope to see you there in the future, we definitely will return.

Best Park, Ever!
Can’t say enough good about this park, accessible beaches and bike paths. Sites are DEEP, WIDE, BEAUTIFUL, and SPACED from neighbor sites. This park is in high demand and requires 6 month advance reservation for non-residents. Pull through sites are at least 150’ long.

Tropical Getaway
This park is my personal favorite for camping and fishing. The Huge sites in the pet friendly section are gorgeous wither the white crushed shell base surrounded by palm trees and other lush tropical vegetation. Pick a site on the water where you can throw in a line or just watch the countless mullet leap into the air either in pursuit of dinner or escaping the jaws of a larger predator. Very peaceful campsites with a constant ocean breeze. Clean bathhouses are conveniently located and include laundry equipment. Bring a bicycle to take advantage of the miles of trails connecting every part of the park including fishing piers and beach. Proximity to Gulf Boulevard and all of the restaurants, shopping and beaches makes Desoto a perfect respite from the busier attractions in St. Pete and Clearwater.

This place is really nice. It has beautiful views and the beach is close by but you still have to take your car.

Our Favorite So Far!
This campground is a great hidden gem. Well maybe not totally hidden since it does book up a lot, but it's a county park so maybe overlooked sometimes. But that's better for you!! It is surrounded with ocean views from most of the sites, with paved bike or walking/running trails to many more beaches including a specific dog beach just down the road. The sites are huge and pretty private with trees and palms in between each one and well maintained. Bathrooms and showers are super clean and nice. Water and electric hook ups only, have to use dump station in park. Really affordable for Florida in December especially so close to St. Petersburg. Kayak, SUP rentals available and lots of fishing right off the campground. The two loops are depressed by dog owners or no pets but both sides are beautiful. Museums, restaurants and shops not too far away in st. Pete's, but the campground feels like an isolated beach island. I can't say enough how much we love this spot!

Liked this campground
We were lucky to come across some cancelations to be able to get to this campground. Unfortunately for us it was in the dog loop and our neighbors dogs barked from the moment they left till they got back many hours later. If you booked a nice site with a waterfront view I bet it would be a fantastic stay. The bike rentals closest to the campground are a bit steep for being charged by the hour when riding around the island takes quite some time. But the camps were spacious and the bathrooms relatively clean. I am excited to return in the summer time with a nicer site.
